Go ahead, munch away on that lobster.
I have to completely agree here with Megnut about animal liberationists carrying on about foie gras, roe, and the general human eatage of animals and their various body parts. (Mmm, body parts).
As if geese could possible object to being stuffed chock-full of premium quality grains, coddled and loved for a lifetime, and then becoming part of a wonderful French celebrationary food tradition. If you take that line, then theoretically the Japanese wagyu cattle should somehow not like a 24-hour indoor lifestyle of love, massages, grain and beer. Sounds like heaven for most people.
Michael Ruhlman makes the point about these bleeding-heart food moralisers conveniently forgetting that humans eating animals is "...about corn and oil". Linking the food debate to the war issue....I'm not so sure about that, because the contributory factors to each debate are different and culturally biased.
Anyway though, it appears that the California food board is going to ban foie gras...(?!?)...in 2012. SCANDAL. It'll be nothing but California sushi rolls for them then. Oh but wait, they contain crab. Crab, the crusty bottom-feeding hobo, the dumpster-diving scavenger of the sea. Imagine EATING this holy creature! Defiling its dignity with such an act!
If you ban foie gras, where do you stop?!?! No poultry! Wait, nothing meat-related. Except offal. Oh, but that's meat... OK, nothing that can be cooked at all. Except vegetables, they're OK. Except for how they scream when being cruelly pulled from the earth or ripped off the vine. Soy beans go through so much pain when they are picked. So no vegetables, nuts and seeds only. Oh, but nuts and seeds...the origins of all plant life!! The creators of the world!!! How many plants and crops do we condemm, with a nonchalant handful of crunchy sunflower seeds??? We may only drink plain water from now on.
Except for how that destroys the habitat of fish. So...
Breatharianism is looking better and better.
