Good Friday table setting

We had such a lovely time preparing the table setting for our Good Friday dinner. We used a white damask cloth underneath the large rectangular table, and covered it with a pale blue wispy chiffon cloth embroidered with white flowers and a white border.

On the small round mosaic table we put a white lace cloth. We used crystal glassware and napkin rings, white dishes and lace napkins, and on the table we placed a bowl of hand-painted Easter eggs that we've made progessively over the years. After you blow the insides of an egg out, you carefully paint the shell and then spray with clear enamel gloss.

The chairs are ones that we have painted ourselves. For the latest re-paint, we bought several pots of blue paint in varying tints of the same shade of blue, and painted each chair a different tint. The effect is quite beautiful: almost a shadowy vanishing effect that blends with the sky and sea around the verandah. Mum spruced up the chair backs with a pretty floral stencil.

She also made some new cushions for the chairs: a life out in the sun and salt air does not a happy cushion make.

I love the fabric she chose: it's old-fashioned and pretty without being old-lady.
