Chinese New Year
Kung hei fat choi! As we move into the Year of the Pig, this is a time to reflect on the year passed, the year ahead, and most importantly, where we are going for firecrackers and noodles on the 17th. The selection has been made: old reliable Superbowl. They are having a banquet, with lion dancing and so forth included. Can't wait....
***update***
It was great. Packed to the gills, super-noisy, but with ten tons of food and some amorously, hungrily and athletically enthusiastic lions. From memory the banquet contained:
Spring rolls
Salt and pepper quail
Pork dumplings
Crispy-skinned chicken
Mixed braised seafood and vegetables
Sizzling Mongolian beef
Combination steamed rice
Mixed mushrooms
Sticky pork spare ribs
Orange wedges
Supposed to be fortune cookies, but we got these weird peanut lollies instead. They tasted like they'd recently been exhumed from Genghis Khan's tomb.
Lots of fun, lots of little red packets floating around... Chinese New Year was a success!
