Elizabeth David project
Recently purchased, from Folio Books in Albert St, a reprint of Elizabeth David's 1974 classic French Provincial Cooking.
Reading it, and realising that she really did change the way the British (and us Australians) thought about Meditteranean food and the French way of cooking, I feel inspired to begin an Elizabeth David project: I intend to cook and blog a recipe from this book at least once a week.
Preliminary thoughts are that there is a LOT of butter used in a LOT of recipes. Might have to cut that down for the sake of the world's health, and also many of the seafood recipes call for British fish like sole and hake and so on. There's enough choice though that I can skip those ones.
Am looking forward to some old-fashioned methods and ingredients, but also to learning more about the history of French cooking outside France (seeing as that's what we all have to do...) Hopefully I will be able to create some interesting and delicious meals, too!
