Paris Creek Farm cheese

Here's a new cheese: found at Woolworths Albany Forest. Paris Creek Cheese Nuage Blanc is a reasonable homage to the great strong cheeses of France. Unfortunately when I tasted my cheese, the fabulous soft oozy outer edge gave way to a disconcertingly firm, crumbly and too-sharp-tasting interior, and it was both not oozy or crumbly enough to work together well. The taste was good: strong, earthy (not as fantastic as King Island Stormy washed rind) but still good. This was not great spread on a cracker, but slightly melted on multigrain toast, it was a winner. About $8 or $9 for a giant round slab.

I feel that this cheese pays pretty good homage to the Chaource cheese in France, it has a similar taste and smell. The texture, noted to be the same as you describe, was the first thing that reminded me of this style of French cheese. I was delighted to finally have an Aussie manufacturer make a cheese close to how it should be done. My understanding is that the Chaource curds are not pressed, but are allowed to drain freely, which contributes to the soft, central texture, and of course the penicillin mould helps break down the outer layer of the cheese, making it liquid. Given, the flavour and strength of odour still do not match the French cheeses, however we are slowly making our way as the Aussie palate becomes more accustomed to these tastes. We've got a long way to go but I remember 10 years ago, there was not much more available in supermarkets than that horrid danish stuff.

It is my new favourite new cheese. When I had this cheese it was close to its use by date, often the best time to eat as it has plenty of time to ripen. It was soft and gooey on the inside with a great flavour.

Having tried the paris creek Com'n'bear (a throughly delightful brie style cheese!) I thought i would give this nuage blanc a try.

The first slice was a surprise... I have never experienced a cheese of this style and i didnt know what to expect! I loved the crumbly sharper taste of the inside, and the lovely soft goo on the outside.
Lets just say, for such a big hunk of cheese, it certainly didnt last long!

this cheese is without a doubt the best cheese you can buy in a supermarket. Not only is it delicious, it's incredibly cheap given the size. i am heartbroken that it's not on our shelves this summer.

No, I do not a commission from Paris Creek (very regrettably..). But their Nuage Blanc seems to have really improved over time. Bought some this am from McAdam Square, Croydon, Vic. Believe it (now) rivals the similar cheeses one could buy at most rural markets in France. It most definitely was not too ripe. If anything it should be left at room temperature for some days to appreciate fully.

Naturally this is only a subjective comment.
