Montmartre cemetery

This beautiful cemetery is an oasis of calm and solitude. I saw an old lady with a watering can, off to tend one of the very well-cared-for gravesites: some with crypts and ornate headstones, some very austere. I love how the new bridge has been built over the top of the old crypt section, but with a few centimetres' clearance so as not to disturb the decorative rooves. In spite of the sign saying "do not feed the stray cats", I ran into a old man who lured me behind a tomb, to see dozens of mangy strays eating cat food from plastic tubs. It appears the rule is like so many other French ones: there to be broken...
